The Social Security Administration recently added 13 new conditions to the Compassionate Allowances program that fast-tracks disability decisions within the agency.<\/p>\n
The new conditions were introduced in December as part of an ongoing effort to innovate and streamline the agency\u2019s work, according to Social Security Commissioner Michael J. Astrue.<\/p>\n
The conditions that were added to the list mostly are immune system, mental and neurological disorders, according to a press release from the agency. They include the following:<\/p>\n
\u2022 Malignant Multiple Sclerosis<\/p>\n
\u2022 ALS or Parkinsonism Dementia Complex<\/p>\n
\u2022 Pulmonary Kaposi Sarcoma<\/p>\n
\u2022 Angelman Syndrome<\/p>\n
\u2022 Paraneoplastic Pemphigus<\/p>\n
\u2022 Multicentric Castleman Disease<\/p>\n
\u2022 Progressive Supranuclear Palsy<\/p>\n
\u2022 Lewy Body Dementia<\/p>\n
\u2022 Primary Effusion Lymphoma<\/p>\n
\u2022 Corticobasal Degeneration<\/p>\n
\u2022 Lowe Syndrome<\/p>\n
\u2022 Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma<\/p>\n
\u2022 Multiple System Atrophy<\/p>\n
The SSA\u2019s Compassionate Allowances program spots conditions that always meet the standard of disability for the purpose of Social Security Disability Insurance.
