Houston-area immigration lawyer Annie Banerjee offers some insightful commentary in the wake of the passage and enactment of Arizona\u2019s controversial anti-immigration law. <\/span><\/p>\n When Arizona\u2019s Republican governor Jan Brewer signed Senate Bill 1070 into law last month, Houston-area immigration lawyer Annie Banerjee was not applauding. \u201cThe law is racist,\u201d she says, \u201cand will unfairly target people who don\u2019t look white. Although Governor Brewer denies that it will be used as a tool for racial and ethnic profiling, I\u2019d be amazed if it doesn\u2019t do exactly that.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n Banerjee perceives the law as a knee-jerk reaction calculated to inflame passions and create polarization rather than as a legitimate measure suggestive of immigration reform. \u201cIt\u2019s not rocket science.
