<\/a><\/p>\nReleased just this month, the 2014 Motor Vehicle Crashes Overview report revealed that:<\/p>\n

- A total of 32,675 people died in highway crashes in 2014;<\/li>\n
- This was down from 32,894 fatal car accidents<\/a>\u00a0in 2013;<\/li>\n
- This represented a 0.7 percent increase in traffic deaths that year;<\/li>\n
- This follows a general decline in traffic deaths that began in 2006.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Encouraging as all this is, it’s not the end of the story, unfortunately. That’s because preliminary figures comparing the first nine months of 2015 to the first nine months of 2014 show there was actually a 9.3 percent increase.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
In that report<\/a>, the NHTSA showed:<\/p>\n

- 26,000 people died on U.S. roads in the first nine months of 2015;<\/li>\n
- 23,796 people died in traffic accidents in the first nine months of 2014;<\/li>\n
