24\/7 Wall Street just handed Corpus Christi, Texas, a new moniker that does nothing to enhance the city\u2019s reputation. No city wants to be on public record for being the drunkest city in Texas. But the award of unwelcome designation should open people\u2019s eyes to what is going on around them. <\/p>\n
The very real issue is that Corpus Christi has a higher rate of adults and juveniles in drug and alcohol treatment programs, and a higher death rate than the state as a whole. <\/p>\n
According to Dr. Phillip Rhoades, head of the Safe Communities Safe Driver Campaign, based at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, in 2015 almost 50 percent of the area\u2019s fatalities were a result of drunk driving accidents.<\/p>\n
What is the underlying problem that causes so many to drink so much?
