The families of two people who died in a house fire have filed a lawsuit against the home\u2019s owner for negligence and wrongful death. The two-alarm fire broke out last June at a row house in Washington\u2019s DuPont Circle, resulting in blackened walls and shattered windows. Five people, including three firefighters, were transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The two deceased victims were trapped on the third floor.
\nThe lawsuits claim that the homeowners had multiple tenants on multiple floors in the home with appliances that were improperly installed and maintained, violating the D.C. Fire Code. The suits also contends that the home did not have working smoke detectors or fire extinguishers, the windows that wouldn\u2019t open, and there was no fire escape ladder. Each family seeks $10 million in damages.<\/p>\n
