The new law was part of Johnson\u2019s \u201cGreat Society\u201d plan, which was a continuation of Franklin Roosevelt\u2019s \u201cNew Deal.\u201d It was meant to be another safety net for seniors and other Americans who would need medical care later in life.<\/p>\n
