At the risk of sounding like a nag, staying in shape does make a substantial difference when it comes to the price you pay for your health insurance premiums. For some reason, though, we don’t think about that when we smoke, overeat, under-exercise, or work in a high-risk job. We figure we are entitled to health insurance at a reasonable price.<\/p>\n
Health insurance would be a reasonable price if people did not smoke, overeat or work in high risk jobs. Doing any of those things, and fostering a myriad of other habits that are not good for one’s health, like drinking excessively or abusing drugs, means you are risking your health. If you want health insurance, and are in bad shape because of your lifestyle choices, you want the insurer to give you a good rate to protect your health.<\/p>\n
It is not up to the insurance company to protect your health.
