When working with my clients, we make sure that their revocable living trust is properly funded. Having a revocable living trust without properly funding the trust is like having a suitcase with nothing in it.
Clients always ask which assets should go into the revocable living trust. One of the assets that there is always a question about is EE Bonds.
EE Bonds are placed in the trust by re-issuing the bonds in the name of the trust. This can be done a treasurydirect.gov, which is a service of the Federal Government.
You go on line to the site, then type in the information and name of the trust, then they’ll send you the re-issued bonds.
