Veterans Who Submit More Complete Claims Can Get Extra Disability Pay

The Department of Veterans Affairs is promising one year of retroactive benefits to veterans who submit “fully developed” disability claims.

The incentive program will apply to claims submitted between August 6, 2013 and August 5, 2015. To be eligible for the retroactive benefits, a veteran must be submitting his or her first disability claim, and the claim must be fully developed, meaning that all essential information has been submitted. If the VA determines that all necessary information was provided, and that the veteran has a service-connected disability, then he or she will be eligible for one year of retroactive benefits.

Until now, benefits were only available from the time a claim was filed. The incentive program is intended to help reduce processing time and decrease the VA’s backlog of pending claims.
