Fighting Alzheimer’s with Head Coach Pat Summitt

Legendary Lady Vols (University of Tennessee) Head Coach, Pat Summitt learned foundational life lessons growing up on a dairy farm under the mentorship of her parents. Working hard, and working smart became the principles by which she lived, and now leads her team and family on and off the basketball court.

Her pristine success on the hardwood stems from her ability to prepare and strategize to maximize strengths, and conquer weaknesses. Summitt credits her parents for instilling in her a tremendous work ethic with the understanding that setbacks will occur, change is inevitable, and that you must embrace learning, bettering yourself and maintaining a positive attitude.

She has made winning an attitude that she now utilizes in her fight against Alzheimer’s disease. With the help of her son, Tyler, Summitt is playing to win with her latest opponent, early onset dementia. They have created the Pat Summitt Foundation as a vehicle to compete against this devastating disease on a national level.

“Whether competing on the basketball court or against Alzheimer’s disease, it takes teamwork to win. Teamwork allows common people to attain uncommon results,” Summitt said.
