Just when it seemed things couldn’t get any stranger, two 85-year-olds are remarrying after being divorced for over 40 years.
When the couple was first married, they were just teens. The groom was a bellhop and just starting a military career. They had no wedding reception; they simply went home after being married by a justice of the peace. After 20 years of marriage and four children, they got a divorce and went on to marry other spouses. Each of those spouses passed away.
Though living in different states, the couple began speaking on the phone. They had not seen one another since 1996 and the time before that was in 1964. When they decided to remarry, their children—the youngest of which is now a grandparent—were elated.
