Water Testing Company Suggests Using Bleach to Disinfect Well

Rapid City, South Dakota, has been pounded lately with some of the worst rain storms in recent memory. As a result of all that extra water being dumped on the area, flooding is a real concern. Another major concern also happens to be what is coming out of the tap.

While people won’t be able to “see” what’s in the water, thanks to the heavy rains, the water has become dangerous. This is the perfect time for people to be checking out water distillers and thinking about installing water purification systems or water distillation systems.

When flooding like what South Dakota faces happens, bacteria and other contaminants are picked up from the ground the water flows over. When it soaks into the ground, it seeps into the local aquifer and from there into various wells and other local water systems. The biggest enemy to having safe, fresh water here is the fact that flooding deluges areas and doesn’t allow the natural percolation process to take place with the groundwater.

When wells are contaminated, people on the receiving end (the tap) are at high risk to be affected by stomach aches, flu-like symptoms, headaches and diarrhea. All that for just wanting to have a glass of water. The major problem of course is that people don’t necessarily see or smell a problem, and so they go ahead and drink the water. One rancher in the area happened to mention his wife’s meals made people sick. Turns out it wasn’t the cooking, but the water, and it was contaminated with bacteria. In cases like this, the smartest thing to do would be to use water distillers, as distilled water is the cleanest and freshest alternative to tap water.

One of the suggestions the local townsfolk have heard is to use bleach to disinfect their wells and water systems. While this is a reasonable suggestion for a very short term use, it needs to be done properly to be effective. The real problem with using bleach is that it is chlorine bleach and chlorine is a contaminant on its own. Or as some would say, “Darned if you do and darned if you don’t.”

Really, the best solution to the problem Mother Nature has presented to the area with torrential rains and flooding is to consider using water distillers and having water distillation systems installed in their homes. It’s the safest, freshest and most reliable alternative going.
